Foothill Ranch isn’t its own city. It’s a master-planned community within the city of Lake Forest. It was completed in 1996 and became part of Lake Forest in 2000. Its ZIP code is 92610, so you’ll often see it listed as Foothill Ranch on addresses and in listings.
Foothill Ranch sits in the foothills on the northeast side of Lake Forest, which gives it a quieter, tucked-away feel while still being minutes from the 241. It’s also home to a business area where companies like Oakley have their headquarters, so some residents can practically walk to work.
Outdoors
Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park is right next door, with trails into the foothills. Neighborhood parks and greenbelts run through the community.
Shopping and work
The Foothill Ranch Towne Centre handles everyday shopping. The business park includes Oakley’s headquarters and offices for other well-known companies.
Getting around
State Route 241 runs through Foothill Ranch, with interchanges at Portola Parkway and Alton Parkway. That puts Irvine and the 91 within easy reach.

As part of Lake Forest, Foothill Ranch is served by Saddleback Valley Unified.

Most homes were built in the 1990s as part of the master plan. You’ll find detached single-family homes, townhomes, and condos, generally in organized neighborhoods with shared amenities.
Foothill Ranch has a master association, and many neighborhoods have sub-associations too. Some tracts may carry Mello-Roos. I’ll check the dues and tax bill on any home you’re considering.
